30% of female population have experienced domestic violence
- 14 Feb
Over 1.1 million women and 720,000 men have been victims of some form of domestic abuse in the past year, official crime figures show.
Figures show that almost 5 million women have experienced some form of domestic abuse since the age of sixteen.
Latest figures from the Crime Survey for England and Wales revels that there were an estimated 406,000 victims of sexual assaults last year with nearly one million victims of stalkers. Over two-thirds of these were women, reports the Guardian.
The survey also revealed that 10% of the public believe that it is "mostly or sometimes" acceptable to hit or slap their partner in response to them having an affair. There is little difference in attitude between men and women, and the percentage rises to 16% between men and women.
