Mental health bed occupancy on the rise

Figures from the NHS reveal that occupancy for mental health beds is at the highest level since dataset begin in 2010-11.
Latest NHS England figures have found that mental health bed occupancy is at the highest level it’s been in the last five years, reports Community Care.
The average occupancy for mental health beds in 2014-15 has been 89.5%. The Royal College of Psychiatrists recommends a ward occupancy level of 85% for effective care.
The NHS Choices data includes acute bed occupancy figures for 48 trusts. Of these, 10 trusts reported 100% occupancy and a further 18 had occupancy levels over 90%. Eight trusts said their acute bed occupancy was below 85%.
