Funding to keep older people living independently in their homes
- 29 May
A £6m investment has been announced by the Welsh Government to help keep older people living in Wales in their own home.
The funding is part of the work of the Care and Repair service, which provides adaptations such as ramps, handrails and safety alarms to the homes of older people to help them stay living safely in their homes independently, reports ITV News.
Part of the funding (£2m) is being put towards the Rapid Response Adaptations Programme, which helps provide minor adaptations to homes to help prevent older people from being admitted to hospital.
The Welsh Government says estimates show every pound invested in the programme creates a £7.50 saving for health and social services.
Lesley Griffiths AM, Minster for Communities and Tackling Poverty has said: "Care and Repair and the Rapid Response Adaptations Programme help transform the lives of more than 40,000 older people across Wales every year. By providing relatively small home adaptations, these services enable people to continue to live safely in the homes they love with the dignity they deserve. As people across Wales live longer, healthier lives, such preventative measures play an increasingly important role in supporting our health and social services."
