New programme to support older people and veterans
- 09 Jun
A new programme aimed at using the experiences of older people and veterans is to be launched in Falmouth on the 15th June.
A new programme from Active Plus, funded by The Big Lottery, aims to tackle loneliness and isolation and help older people become more active and informed through activities facilitated by military veterans, reports The Falmouth Packet.
Paul Buxton, Communities Team Leader at Active Plus said: “Active Plus Communities is all about unlocking the potential of older people who may be feeling vulnerable, lonely or disconnected from their community. It builds on our successful Silver Dreams programme, but is even better because we can work with communities for longer and really support older people to get involved and make a difference.”
Over the next four years Active Plus Communities aims to deliver 20 communities across Cornwall with injured veterans supported 400 older people through six-week Active Plus courses.
Paul, a former Royal Marine Medic said: “The success of Active Plus delivery is that people help themselves through helping others. This applies equally to the people who attend our programmes and the military veterans who deliver them. In Active Plus Communities we take this one step further by working together to develop events and projects that can support the wider community. We are really grateful to the Big Lottery for having faith in us to deliver such an important programme”
