£1m project aimed to tackle isolation in older people
- 30 Jun
CarelineUK has won a grant of £320,000 to help lead a consortium to combat elderly isolation in the South West.
The ‘Community Channel South West' project, which will run with Dorset County Council, Bournemouth Housing Society for the Elderly and production company RPPtv, has been chosen as one of four regional projects being partly funded by UK innovation foundation Nesta and the Technology Strategy Board, reports 24dash.
CarelineUK plans to use existing community services and state-of-the-art IT systems to host a media channel and social network which provides local news and information to help vulnerable and lonely people connect with their local community and services.
The project will be piloted next year, delivered through social housing services in Dorset and the South West. Depending upon the results the programme will then be rolled-out across the UK.
Andrew Gardner, managing director of CarelineUK, said: "We are very excited to be leading the "Community Channel, South West" project and look forward to working with our partner organisations in tackling social isolation. The competition funding and our own investment will ensure we can apply our experience in using technology-based solutions to make a real difference for vulnerable people, giving them more independence and support."
