£50k funding for Social Impact projects

  • The Young Foundation are offering £50,000 of support towards ventures aiming to achieve social impact.

    The Young Foundation offer support in way of a 4 month course with tutoring, coaching and facilitation. You will be mentored through the course and helped by a practice leader from the Young Foundation team in your chosen area education / employability, health or housing.

    The course offers to deliver a flexible programme with learning spread over a 4 month period, during which you receive tutoring, coaching and facilitation worth £50,000, opportunities to formally pitch your venture to social investor, and networking sessions

    To be accepted for the funding you must:

    • Focus on changing lives for the better
    • Target customer groups who are inadequately served
    • Operate a robust, sustainable business model
    • Have the potential to grow and broaden their social impact
    • Are thinking about routes to financial independence

    Application submission: Sunday 16th September - First phase closing date / Friday 28th September Final phase closing date

    Interviews: W/c 8th October Applicant interviews

    The Young Foundation has pioneered the field of social innovation over the past 50 years and has been able to bring about some extraordinary improvements to society through initiatives like The Open University, UpRising and Studio Schools and we are helping to scale a number of exciting initiatives which have huge potential, such as Spice, Enabling Enterprise, Start Again and Care 4 Care.

    In February 2011 The Young Foundation was commissioned by NESTA to explore the breadth of support available to social ventures wishing to scale. This policy paper entitled 'Growing Social Ventures - The role of Social Venture intermediaries - what they are and what they could become', was the first comprehensive survey of the state of the institutions that support a dynamic and emerging sector of social ventures.

    In November 2011, we were commissioned, alongside Boston Consulting Group, by Big Society Capital to research the social investment market in England. 'Lighting the touchpaper: Growing the Market for Social Investment in England', was to provide the first independent, comprehensive survey of the emerging social investment industry. In particular, until now there has been a lack of quantitative data and analysis on the size of the market, how it operates, the types of investment being made and the returns that may be realised
