Money from a £100m regeneration fund is being used for housing
- 05 Feb
Part of the Welsh Government's £100m regeneration fund will be used to increase housing supply.
Local authorities who will receive funding are Bridgend, Conwy, Flintshire, Isle of Anglesey, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen and Wrexham, reports Inside Housing.
In Newport the money will be used to convert a former pub into flats whilst also bringing key buildings back into use.
Announcing the allocation of the Vibrant and Viable Places fund was Carl Sargeant. He said: "Increasing housing supply is my number one priority and these successful bids will build on and complement the excellent regeneration work in evidence across Wales through our Houses into Homes and Social Housing Grant schemes. These worthy projects will make a real difference to their communities and I'm delighted with the quality of the bids received. Many of the successful bids focus on the regeneration of town centres, which is about a lot more than filling empty shops."
The funding breakdown for the selected local authorities is:
- Bridgend - £6 million
- Conwy - £12 million
- Flintshire - £6 million
- Isle of Anglesey - £7.5 million
- Merthyr Tydfil - £13 million
- Neath Port Talbot - £9.6 million
- Newport - £15 million
- Rhondda Cynon Taf - £6 million
- Swansea - £8.4 million
- Torfaen - £8.2 million
- Wrexham - £10.6 million
