£150m for English A&E's this winter
- 21 Nov
It is expected that the government will make £150m available to A&E units in England to help with what's said to be a tough winter.
With many A&E's already missing the four-hour waiting time target ministers are said to be worried about how hospitals will cope over the winter, reports the BBC.
The money is set to come on top of the £500m bailout fund announced in the summer which is being spread over two years. Ministers said that this money would help the NHS prepare properly.
Dame Barbara Hakin, NHS England's deputy chief executive, said: "This year we started preparing for winter earlier and we are monitoring the situation with great care to see what more might need to be done. NHS England is considering ways of releasing more funds to help with winter in addition to the £250m already agreed by the government."

Responding to the DWP Consultation: Housing Benefit Reform - Supported Housing "I thought this briefing was very good and very useful. The presentation was clear, well argued and I always find Michael gives me food for thought even if I don't agree with everything he says. I really like the way he facilitates a discussion in the room and I learn as much from other participants as I do from the presenter which is always good. Right length, right tone."
