Tendering & Procurement in Supporting People Services

Following our very successful national and in-house Tendering & Procurement events in 2007 & 2008 in England and Scotland (over 1500 delegates), we are pleased to announce a further series of updated 1 day events for 2008. These will cover similar practical issues as previously, but with new examples drawn from processes we have been involved in delivering during 2007-08 (e.g. Framework contract bids; added emphasis towards Outcomes; negotiated arrangements etc)..

These one day events are primarily intended for Providers who are anticipating needing to tender for existing or new services, but they are also valuable for SP Team members who need to develop their understanding of the issues and processes involved. Event outcomes will include:

  • An understanding of the legal basis behind tendering and how local authorities interpret it
  • A knowledge of “the market” , how tendering has affected it and how to manage and work effectively within it
  • A set of tools, knowledge & skills based on an information & discussion approach to training
  • An understanding of options available to tenderers and available market intelligence
  • An understanding of how local authorities evaluate tenders
  • Equipping both SP teams and Bidders to better manage the process and deliver a successful Tender.

Individual Budgets: How Should Providers Prepare?

These half-day events are primarily intended for Providers who need to understand what Individual Budgets & Self Directed Services are about and how they should prepare for them. The introduction of Individual Budgets/Self-Directed Services will represent a paradigm shift in the way our sector works and it is vital that Providers are informed and ready. These events will also be useful for SP team members and other service commissioners who want to gain an understanding of Individual Budgets and Self-Directed Services and what impact they will have on the way housing & support services work.

A Consortium Approach to Tendering & Procurement

These half-day events are primarily intended for Providers who are anticipating needing to tender for existing or new services and want to better understand how a Consortium approach could work to their advantage. They will also be useful for SP team members who want to gain an understanding of why Consortium arrangements can be good for the market and action they could consider in their approach to receipt of a Consortium bid.
