Circle is one of the largest groups of housing associations in the UK. It provides affordable housing and related services including supported and sheltered housing in England.

Their mission is to enhance the life chances of its residents by providing high-quality homes and reliable services, and building sustainable communities.

Merton Priory Homes, one of the housing associations in the group, awarded the community funding to a local learning centre, which had put it towards a youth programme in the area to help young people across Merton affected by the dangers of drugs, guns and gang culture.

The project reached 100 young people aged between 7 and 19 from across Merton over a six month period. The aim of the project was to give them support in improving their health, getting into work and steering clear of crime and substance abuse. They had first aid training workshops and the 40 teenagers all received British Red Cross certificates.

The project supports further work by Merton Priory Homes to give local people free training and a jobs match service for the construction industry. Merton Priory Homes Community Fund is a £1 million fund for supporting community based initiatives that enhance the life chances of local people. It has funded a further programme run by Uptown, the local learning centre, for young people aged up to 12 which will begin in July.
