Over the past year we’ve seen numerous charities raise thousands from social media campaigns such as the recent Ice Bucket Challenge, and now a homeless shelter is hoping to do the same.
Shelter from the Storm, based in Islington, is hoping to raise awareness and funds to help people in need via their #bedless campaign. The campaign encourages social media users to photograph themselves or friends sleeping in “weird and wonderful places”, reports the Mirror.
Shelter from the Storm hope that by getting people to post their photos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #bedless, alongside nominating three others to do the same, will help raise awareness of the shelter and raise money for people who need it.
Through the #bedless campaign they want to help raise awareness of the charity and boost donations on their Just Giving page. Currently, Shelter from the Storm provide hot meals and warm beds to people in the capital all year round, which costs £10 per night per person.
The initiative is already taking off on Twitter, with people posting photos sleeping in the office, in the middle of the street and – in the case of 5 News presenter Julian Druker – even on rooftops.
