Support for tenants in sheltered housing on accommodation and tenancy due to new Wellbeing Service
- 14 Apr
South Kesteven District Council is hosting a series of surgery style drop-in sessions to help residents with the introduction of Lincolnshire County Council's Wellbeing service.
Weekly meetings are planned to be held throughout the district so that tenants of sheltered housing are able to raise any queries about their accommodation or tenancy through face-to-face opportunities.
SKDC's Head of Housing and Neighbourhoods, Ian Richardson, said: "The meetings have been well attended so far and we are working closely with the new providers, the Lincs Independent Living Partnership, to ensure that the transition continues to go smoothly," reports the Stamford Mercury.
Almost 1,100 tenants across the district living in SKDC Supported Housing schemes and currently a team of scheme managers provide a service to residents with the back-up of a 24/7 response service. However the new Wellbeing Service includes assessment for support, assistive technology and small items of equipment.
The changes mean that whilst it no longer provides support, the district council will emphasise the move to tenancy management with care for communal areas of sheltered housing whilst ensuring that properties continue in the best possible condition.
Mr Richardson added: "Issues raised at the surgeries have varied from access to the gardens and grass cutting, to cleanliness of communal areas and how to book guest rooms. All of these issues are being addressed and we aim to improve our communication with our sheltered housing tenants through face-to-face meetings, providing named sheltered housing officer contact details and introducing regular newsletters."

The presentation was clear, well argued and I always find Michael gives me food for thought even if I don't agree with everything he says. I really like the way he facilitates a discussion in the room and I learn as much from other participants as I do from the presenter which is always good. Right length, right tone."
