Badly performing care homes to be highlighted by new watchdog
- 17 Feb
It has been announced that a new watchdog regime will be in place to look into badly performing Scottish nursing homes and care
services.
The Care Inspectorate, which inspects 14,000 care homes, nurseries and other support services, has said that it will notify the media when an organisation fails to meet standards and highlight them on its website, reports Inside Housing.
Figures published last month show a 3% rise in complaints to the inspectorate in the second half of last year compared to 2012.
Annette Bruton, chief executive of the Care Inspectorate, said: "We publish our inspection reports online but want to be more open and transparent by highlighting services which cause us concern or impress us. As well as demanding fast action when services need to improve - or closing them when they don't - we have a duty to inform the public about what we find on inspection."
The inspectorate will also highlight the best-performing services.
