How technology is helping people with disabilities
- 05 May
Exhibitors at Naidex, the UK's largest disability, rehabilitation and home care event, have been showing the ways technology can help people with a disability.
At the exhibit people presented all-terrain wheelchairs, adapted smartphone for people whose fingers can't cope with normal devices, wheelchairs that allow the user to become level with the people who operate it and exercise bikes adapted for people who have limited use of their legs, reports Sky News.
The theme of the event is independent living, which is what Paralympic double gold-medallist Hannah Cockroft was there to speak about.
She told Sky News: "For me, independence is really important, and for disabled people, something that is taken away quite easily and is something that you really have to fight to have. I think it's really important that people actually believe they can have it and that's the first step to getting it. So this place (Naidex) is great because people can come and see what they need for their independence."
