Worcestershire to hold a Learning Disability Day
- 01 May
A third Worcestershire Learning Disability Day is to be held this summer with the theme of making friends whilst staying healthy and happy.
The day will be held on Wednesday 10th June at King George V Community Centre in Ash Avenue, Brickfields, Worcester and is free for everyone to attend between 10am till 3pm, reports Worcester News.
The event has been organised by a team of people who all hold an interest in the issues people with learning disabilities face. They include service users, members of the Community Integrated Learning Disability Team, providers of services and partnership organisations in and around Worcestershire.
This year's theme is ‘Get it Together' and focuses on meeting and making friends, staying safe, choosing hobbies, deciding where to live and how to keep healthy and happy.
During the day there will be opportunities to watch and try many activities including archery, seated hockey, Zumba, tai chi, a theatre production and a bowling game called boccia.
Elaine Harris, who is the Professional Lead Nurse in the Community Learning Disability Team, said: "Last year's event celebrated success. It was very well attended with more than 200 people present. The day included fantastic demonstrations of football skills, bell ringing and the signed performance of Romeo and Juliet by Regency Special School was very emotional. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet others, hear about their amazing success stories and find out really helpful information about what is happening in Worcestershire."
