New domestic violence campaign for schools in Croydon
- 28 Feb
Croydon Council and Strictly Come Dancing Stars are joining together to launch a school campaign to help silent victims of domestic violence.
Len Goodman's son James and dance Kristina Rihanoff have helped form the Dot Com Foundation charity with domestic violence Sharon Doughty, who has developed the learning programme to help support children.
The campaign is part of Croydon Council's early intervention work to help support young people, reports 24dash.
On 5th March Doughty will be at the Community Space in Croydon Council's Bernard Weatherhill House headquarters to launch the campaign. She will be joined by pupils from Woodside schools where the learning plan has been piloted.
The "Values Versus Violence" programme teaches pupils about right and wrong behaviour and how to ask for help if they become victims of physical or sexual abuse. The pupils will also be encouraged to share what they have learnt.
Doughty said: "I believe this will be a landmark day for at-risk children, and I hope it will become a model for other local authorities to follow across the capital."
