Council told to improve homelessness services by regulator

A social housing regulator has told a Scottish council to improve its homelessness services.
The Scottish Housing Regulator has told Glasgow City Council that it needs to “act quickly” to improve its homelessness services, reports Inside Housing.
Homelessness case workers have reached an agreement with the city council after months of industrial action over a pay dispute.
Christine MacLeod, director of regulation at the SHR, said: “We have had regular contact throughout the industrial action with the council and other homelessness agencies in the city to monitor the situation, particularly the impact on homeless people. Now that the industrial action is resolved, the council must act quickly to review its plan to improve services for homeless people in the city and give appropriate priority to the improvements that are needed. We will look to the council to assure us that it is doing this.”
Ms MacLeod, however, did not say exactly what Glasgow City Council should improve about its homelessness services.
A Glasgow City Council spokeswoman said: “The council’s social work services will be focussing on service users with the priority being to re-establish service delivery arrangements quickly and effectively following resolution of the industrial action. In addition we continue to prioritise the existing improvement plan agreed with SHR and will update this accordingly.”
