Ending youth homelessness should be a priority, says 60% of poll
- 20 Mar
A recent poll by a charity have found that over 60% of British adults think more should be done by the government to make ending youth homelessness a priority.
The poll by ComRess, carried out for Centrepoint, questioned 2,079 British adults attiude, with 1,247 respondents saying they believe the government should make ending youth homelessness a priority, reports Inside Housing.
The research was released as the End Youth Homelessness group urged the chancellor to address the shortage of social and private rented sector properties in which young people on benefits could afford to rent.
Seyi Obakin, chief executive of Centrepoint, said: "80,000 young people face youth homelessness in this country every year; it's an issue that demands greater government action, and clearly the public agree. Investing in unemployed young people and truly affordable housing is a no-brainer for politicians of all parties. Intervening now will not only help reduce homelessness, but it will also save the country money in the long-run."
