New Website to Tackle Homelessness
- 21 Sep
A website has been re-launched to help those in London at risk of homelessness access the advice they need.
The Homeless London website offers information on the rights of those who are homeless and links to over 1,600 services that may be able to help.
Evidence suggests that almost half of those who sleep rough will not have sought help from services before they end up on the streets, so this website aims to put homeless people in touch with people who can help them.
It is a easy to use website with help for straightforward steps for how to get help and the best places to go to get it. For if someone is homeless, in danger of becoming homeless or needs to find accommodation, there are multiple advice guides, and a map to locate the closest places to go for help so it directs the user specifically for their own needs.
Homeless London has been produced by Homeless Link, the umbrella organisation for homeless charities in England. The project is funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government, the Greater London Authority and the support of London's five sub-regional housing partnerships who represent all 33 London boroughs.
David Ford, Chair of Homeless Link's Expert Panel, who has experienced homelessness, said:
One of the most frustrating aspects of homelessness is not knowing where to go for the right advice and support or how to access the appropriate services. The new Homeless London web site goes a long way to overcoming that frustration with clear and quick information and direction for those who need help.
Rick Henderson, Chief Executive of Homeless Link, said:
Life on the streets damages individuals and harms communities. Our research has shown that almost half of those who sleep rough will not have had any contact with services before they end up on the streets. As homelessness in the capital is rising, it is clear that we need to make sure people can find information on where to go and get help before ending up on the streets.
If you or someone you know is homeless or is at risk of becoming homeless, log-on to Homeless London now and get the help that could make all the difference.
