Newspaper office to become a centre for homeless people
- 26 Aug
A former weekly newspaper office in Doncaster is to become a centre for homeless people after a multi-million pound refurbishment.
The old office for the Doncaster Free Press is being transformed into flats and other facilities for people who are homeless, reports Hold the Front Page.
The building is being turned into self-contained flats, communal areas and other facilities for people who are homeless and is being run by Doncaster homelessness charity M25 Housing and Support Group.
Social enterprise Made By U has provided the carpets and flooring for the building and any profits will be used to support homeless services and provide employment opportunities.
Joyce Foster, executive director of M25, said: “This exciting opportunity has arrived at exactly the right moment for M25 and those people we support. Made By U will help us do so much more to benefit Doncaster’s economic regeneration and create a better future for improving homelessness services across the borough.”
Neil Green, Made By U project director, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, having developed the project with M25 and forged relations with environmentally conscious partners around the country to 100pc avoid landfill, and I cannot wait to see the scale of success unfold. I have run my carpet business for over 15 years and Made By U is a demonstration of my commitment towards ending homelessness in my local town.”
