Six fold increase in homelessness in Greater Manchester
- 04 Mar
Charities are concerned with the government's commitment to tackling the issue of homelessness with the number of people sleeping rough in Greater Manchester rising up 150%.
Analysis by the M.E.N reveals that homelessness has increased in the city by 150% in the last four years and that there are now six times as many people sleeping rough in Manchester as there was in 2010.
The figures have been compiled by councils and many agree that the figures are merely the tip of the iceberg.
Jonathan Billings, who runs Stockport's homeless charity the Wellspring, told the M.E.N. he was ‘not confident' the government was taking the issue seriously, adding: "We have noticed a marked increase over the last few years."
