Salvation Army Plan to Tackle Substace Misuse
- 02 Jul
The Salvation Army expand their social work and launch a five year plan to help communities tackle alcohol and drug misuse.
Trialing a new system, they will be using holistic methods to help people achieve long-term recovery from addiction.
The new system called the Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) is designed to use the community to encourage a change in drinking habits or drug use.
CRA has been proven successful in New Zealand and will be trialed by Scotland's Salvation Army in three selected towns; Greenock, Stirling and Falkirk.
There will be drug and alcohol workers in these areas, who will create a personal treatment plan individual to each participant, to help help improve behavioural skills and employment skills, as well as counselling,
The Salvation Army has put £250,000 into the early stages of the programme, and will also be opening another hub in Scotland, as well as a new centre for further training and research opportunities.
Lt Col Ian Barr, from The Salvation Army said:
We are concerned about the social and health effects alcohol is having on families and on the fabric of society in Scotland.
Today's announcement confirms our commitment to social services in Scotland and to the people we serve.
