Housing provider awarded for hate crime awareness
- 30 Oct
Mosscare Housing in Manchester has been awarded for its hate crime awareness campaign.
Mosscare Housing provides 4,500 homes and has received the Corporate Contribution of the year award in the Nubian Times Media Business & Community Awards at the Hilton Hotel on Saturday.
Over the past year Mosscare has run a series of events to campaign against hate crime with an awareness week which included keynote speaker Sylvia Lancaster, whose daughter was murdered because she dressed differently.
In her speech Sylvia highlighted the issues of how hate crime is similar to alternative sub-culture.
As well as this the housing association also created a film about the effects of hate crime on its tenants and residents in Manchester's Moss Side, which has been shortlisted for the Northern Housing Summit's Silver Screen Award, reports 24Dash.
Mosscare's supported housing manager, Lorna Davis, said: We'd like to thank all those who voted for us. It's great to win an award but it's even better when it's for something that is making a difference to our local neighbourhoods."
Neighbourhood Officer, Angela Hunter, added: "This award just spurs us on to push the message out that hate crime needs to be reported and dealt with properly."
