£250,000 food poverty fund
- 08 Jan
Manchester City Council is offering the chance for groups to bid for a share of a £250,000 fund set aside to fight food poverty.
The funding has been made available under the council's Local Welfare Scheme and is designed to help the city's most vulnerable residents.
The council expects the support provided to be in the form of food and goods rather than cash, reports 24dash.
Agencies will be allowed to bid for funds to provide additional support or to help ensure the sustainability of their existing schemes.
There is also £100,000 available so that support is provided to vulnerable residents in fuel poverty.
Councillor Jeff Smith, executive member for finance, said: "It's a sign of the times that food poverty and fuel poverty are real concerns across the country, and Manchester is no exception. We want to make sure that no one in serious need goes without."
