Social housing families receive free cooking course
- 12 May
Salix Homes has given its social housing tenants in Salford free family cooking classes.
Salix Homes has teamed up with food charity Fareshare to help teach tenants and their families how to prepare healthy meals when following a budget, reports 24dash.
The course will last for six weeks and over that time particimpants will be able to work with qualified chefs to learn how to cook a variety of low-cost, health dishes using fresh ingredients for the whole family.
There will even be the opportunity for tenants to obtain a certificate in Food and Hygiene.
Jackie Crook, community involvement and new initiatives manager at Salix Homes, said: "We have been running our cooking courses for tenants for three years now and they've been really successful with tenants saying they're eating healthier and have seen their food bills decrease. We are encouraging our tenants to bring along their children too, so the whole family can learn together about the benefits of healthy eating. We know how difficult it can be to produce nutritious meals for the family when money is tight, so we want to show our tenants that it is possible to eat healthily while living on a budget."
All ingredients will be supplied and participants will receive a cooking starter pack to take home.
