Funding Creates New Mental Health Support
- 02 Apr
£720,000 funding given to the mental health charity Mind will help develop personal choices for clients needing support.
The Mind branch in Lancashire has received the funding as part of £5.5 million government grants being given out nationally to this type of initiative, to which hundreds of voluntary organisations have applied to help improve health and care for all.
They will be using it as part of the project 'Your Support, Your Choice', which is an initiative to help people with mental health and disability problems to personalise their care programmes.
Blackburn and Darwen council have developed the programme to improve the long-term care and support for people in the area.
The funding will be used by Lancashire Mind to develop new approaches to health and social care, including new staff and training, to improve care and efficiency.
Self-care facilitators will support and motivate citizens to engage in healthy behaviours and develop self care skills, and a community well-being co-ordinator will work to boost support and to fight the risks of poor health.
Lancashire Mind's chief executive Mark Lunney said:
We are delighted to be able to work collaboratively together in Blackburn with Darwen council and thrilled to have secured this much-needed funding.
Blackburn with Darwen adult care boss Mohammed Khan said:
One of our priorities is to work with other agencies and the community to come up with innovative ways of improving health and wellbeing.
We believe that by building up the community and neighbourhoods to be able to deal with some of the health and social care issues is the only real solution.
