Pilot fund of £250,000 open to charities in South West

  • The Santander Foundation, the charitable arm of the bank Santander, has launched a £250,000 fund open to charities that help disadvantaged people in south-west England.

/images/blog/open_quote.jpgThe Santander Community Fund, launched this week, will provide grants of up to £5,000 for projects for disadvantaged people in the area through the foundation. It is open to small regional charities or local projects run by national charities.

The fund is being piloted in the south west before being launched nationally as a £1m fund in 2013. Applications to the fund can be made by visiting any Santander branch and completing a form.

Funding can cover salaries, equipment or materials. The closing date is 12 October. Entries will be considered by a panel of staff drawn from across the region and grants will be awarded in November.

Alison Varney, divisional managing director at Santander, said: "We're keen to hear about those small, local charities in the south west where a grant of up to £5,000 could make a real difference to help people in the area."

She said the new fund had been set up to support a broad range of initiatives, along with a quick and simple application process specifically designed for small charities.
