Supporting People budget cut by £10m by the Welsh government
- 02 Oct
The Welsh government has cut the budget for Supporting People by £6m more than expected to £10m.
A draft budget shows the government announcing plans to cut the budget for Supporting People from £134.4m in 2014/15 to £124.4m in 2015/16 which is a drop of 7.4%, reports Inside Housing.
Despite these cuts the Welsh government will provide an additional £32m in housing initiatives the next financial year.
The funding will be provided across five areas, including a £10m loan fund for social landlords to buy land to provide affordable housing and £10m to bring empty homes back into use.
Speaking to Inside Housing, communities and tackling poverty minister Lesley Griffiths, who has responsibility for housing, said: "I'm delighted in the additional funding within housing announced in the budget today. I'm very keen, especially, to turn empty houses back into homes. We're in a minority government and we've done a deal with the Liberal Democrats in Wales to get the budget agreed."
