UN to investigate how welfare reforms will affect disability rights
- 02 Sep
Officials from the Unite Nations will visit the UK to investigate whether the government’s welfare reforms are committing “grave violations” of the human rights of people with disabilities.
A disability charity in Scotland has said it’s been contacted by the UN’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as part of an inquiry into Britain’s treatment of people with disabilities, reports RT.
Inclusion Scotland’s Director of Policy Bill Scott said: “The UN have notified us they will be visiting Britain to investigate … and want to meet with us when they come, sometime in the next few months.”
Campaigners have said the Work Capability Assessment must be overhauled because it is not an accurate way of measuring an individual’s capacity to work.
