Housing chiefs in Manchester to consider health targets
- 07 Apr
NHS officials are in negotiations with housing associations in Greater Manchester over setting up joint healthcare measures following a £6bn budget devolution for the region.
Managing director of City West Housing Trust, David Cummins, has said that he and his colleagues are meeting to find a way of quantifying housing's worth in health terms, reports Inside Housing.
As of next year Greater Manchester Strategic Health and Social Care Partnership Board, under the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, will be responsible for a £6bn a year joint health and social care budget.
Mr Cummins said: "We've tried to identify a common language and what common outcomes there are - what things both we and they are trying to achieve. Their outcome measures are different than ours, but at the same time we know we're doing lots of things as housing providers that contribute to their targets. We're not necessarily measuring the health outcomes of things we do and we need to articulate that better. We should be part of the future."
City West is hoping a scheme to link new tenants with their local GP practice will be replicated across the devolved Greater Manchester area.

Responding to the DWP Consultation: Housing Benefit Reform - Supported Housing "I thought this briefing was very good and very useful. The presentation was clear, well argued and I always find Michael gives me food for thought even if I don't agree with everything he says. I really like the way he facilitates a discussion in the room and I learn as much from other participants as I do from the presenter which is always good. Right length, right tone."
