Preventing Sexually Exploited Teens from Becoming Homeless

Charity and council work together to set up a new housing scheme for victims of gang grooming.
The need for the service was highlighted in a report on the council's reponse to the crime, and the council is working on providing suitable accommodation.
Following a group of young girls becoming victims of grooming by a gang, Rochdale Council is setting up a housing service to prevent them becoming homeless.
A review in to the council's response to the insident showed that there is a need for the housing, and that if this were in place then it could help to prevent future problems for young vulnerable people.
They are working with a youth homeless charity Depaul UK to introduce a relevant service for girls who have been sexually exploited in situations such as this.
Depaul UK provide temporary accommodation for nine young people aged 16-19 in it's Statham House project, which is where the service would be used if it goes ahead and the charity would employ more staff with experience of dealing with child sexual exploitation to it's staff.
A spokesperson for the council said it was too early to say how much the service would cost or when it is likely to launch.
