PRIME MINISTER HAS ENDORSED A REVIEW TO CATALYSE THE MASS SALE OF NHS LAND FOR HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
- 05 Jun
The Naylor review has been endorsed by Prime Minister, Theresa May, to catalyse the mass sale of NHS land for housing development.
The review was published in late March but did not receive a response prior to the call for general elections.
Ms May said this in a BBC TV Interview:
"We are backing the proposals in the Naylor report (as one means of increasing funding)."
According to the Naylor review by Sir Robert Naylor, former chief executive of University College London Hospitals:
- Land sold by the NHS should be prioritised for the development of residential homes for NHS staff
- The NHS could also create its own bespoke housing association
- Landlords can rent homes to staff or enter into an agreement for the employee to gain from a share in any equity increase on their retirement leased to a new staff who can also enjoy such benefits
Deloitte also did an analysis as part of the review and found that:
- About £2.7bn could be raised from selling surplus NHS land and buildings, which can lead to the creation of 40,000 homes
