Private renters struggle to find other housing alternatives

Due to a lack of housing alternatives, around 56% of private renters have rented for a longer time period than they expected, according to a YouGov survey.
The National Housing Federation (NHF) published statistics from a survey which revealed that 63% of private renters between the ages of 25 - 44 years old believed that they would have bought their own house by now.
The survey consisted of 1,183 private renters found that 28% felt unable to put their roots down as they may have to move soon.
This figure has risen to 32% which is one in three amongst renters with children in the household, Inside Housing reports.
Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation, David Orr stated, ‘It's clear that the younger generation is being let down, and given no alternative but to move from one short-term let to the next, never being able to save enough to buy because their wages are eaten up by rent.'
According to the English Housing Survey 2012/13, almost a million more people in England rent in comparison to five years ago.
It was also shown from the survey that private renters are nine times more likely than homeowners to have moved in the past year.
