The National House-Building Council (NHBC) has published a report that shows the number of new homes registered in the UK post-Brexit vote.
The report which was based on data from about 12,000 registered builders who construct about 80% of the new homes built in the UK, revealed the following:
- An on-year increase in the number of both new semi-detached homes with 38,999 registrations in 2016 - the highest annual level in the UK since 1986
- An annual increase in new build detached homes- a total of about 46,118 registrations - across the UK in 2016 - the highest since 2004
- A year on decline in the number of apartments being registered in 2016 - about 38,912 apartments were registered in 2016
- The decline above came as a result of the increase in family-sized homes being registered
- Apart from apartments, the total number of new homes being registered in 2016 was revealed to have declined last year; down 2% year-on-year to 151,687
- New-build registrations fell by 33% year-on-year in London, in 2016
- Scotland, West Midlands, East-Midlands and Eastern England dropped by 9%, 2%,8% and 5% respectively
- However, Yorkshire and Humberside saw a 27% annual increase
