Housing association staff and tenants across the UK are being urged to fast for one day - to raise money and donations to support the vital work of Trussell Trust Food Banks around the country
The #UKHousingFast is a social media campaign which is led by people living and working in social housing to support the activities of Trussell Trust.
This fast is in its third year and will take place on the 23rd of June.
Here are the ways to get involved, according to 24 Dash:
- Get your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor your fast
- Skip a meal and donate the money you saved
- Get sponsored to give up tea, coffee, or chocolate for the day
- Organise a food collection in your community or place of work
- Get involved in the conversation on Twitter by using the hashtag #UKHousingFast
- Post a selfie with a plate containing your pledge of support and using the hashtag #platepledges
- Contribute your story to the #UKHousingFast blog
- Volunteer at a food bank in your area
Nazrin Fazal, who is the organiser of this year's event, said:
"I was sad to read a recent report by the Trussell Trust which highlighted the use of food banks is on the increase in the UK.
"Like the Trussell Trust, I don't want over one million three-day food supplies a year to become the new normal, but while the need exists,
I want to do everything I can to help food banks continue their vital work that supports so many people living and working in social housing."
