MANY MAY STRUGGLE AS A RESULT OF CHANGES TO THE UNIVERSAL CREDIT SYSTEM
- 03 May
A study by Child Poverty Action Group, warns that many would struggle due to changes to the Universal Credit system which comes into force on Thursday.
The study envisages the following issues from the move which is expected to save the taxman £1billion a year by 2021:
- Limiting Universal Credit payments 'to the first two children in a family will push 200,000 kids into poverty'
- Close to a million families may be affected
- Working families with three children are set to lose out the most from the cap; up to £2,870 yearly
Chief executive of Child Poverty Action Group, Alison Garnham said:
"This cut suggests some children are more important than others.
"No parent has a crystal ball. Families that can comfortably support a third child today could struggle tomorrow.
"Children shouldn't suffer on the basis of how many siblings they have."
