UNIVERSAL CREDIT SET TO EXPAND IN AREAS SERVED BY KIRKINTILLOCH JOBCENTRE
- 17 Oct
From the 2nd of November, Universal Credit welfare entitlement is set to expand to cover more people in areas served by Kirkintilloch Jobcentre.
The beneficiaries of this would have to live within one of these postcodes: G64 4, G66 1, G66 2, G66 3, G66 4, G66 5, G66 7 and G66 8.
This entitlement means working age people in these postcodes covered by the scheme will now claim:
- Universal Credit instead of applying for income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income Support, working and child tax credits and
- Housing Benefit
Those that can benefit from this scheme are as follows:
- Both the employed and unemployed
- People on low incomes
- People with disabilities
- If help is needed to pay council tax, there is the need to separately apply to the council
- If required, it is pertinent to make an application as soon as possible, even if a decision has not been made on a Universal Credit claim yet
Rhondda Geekie, Council Leader, said "Universal Credit will bring new challenges to those eligible to claim it", however, she will endeavor to do everything possible "to help support those who are affected".
