Universal credit system rolled out in Forest of Dean
- 06 May
Residents in the Forest of Dean will now be claiming universal credit.
Cinderford and Coleford were added to the latest list of locations where the Universal Credit system is in place this week, reports the Gloucester Citizen.
To help people struggling with the changes to their benefits staff at the local Citizens Advice Bureau have been given extra training and numerous fact sheets have been prepared.
"At present Universal Credit only affects newly unemployed single people so we will be keeping a close watch on the situation as it develops," said CAB's manager in the Forest of Dean Lynn Teague.
Computers and staff are also being provided by Forest of Dean District Council and jobcenters in Cinderford and Coleford will have tutors available to help get claimants online.
There is concern that there is little understanding about the new system being rolled out. In a survey conducted 18 months ago by CAB up to 80 per cent of people didn't understand the new system.
