When filmmaker Ryan McHenry found out he had cancer, he was in the middle of pre-production for his first feature film 'Zombie Musical' and was forced to put all his work on hold.

However, his friends on Vine decided to help raise money through an Indiegogo campaign called “Ryan Gosling Won't Eat His Cancer.”

Although McHenry's hospital bills will be covered because he lives in the UK, the money raised from the campaign will help to support him after his chemotherapy and recovery.

Mashable reported the words of Paul Zenisek (a TV editor from Minneapolis, who helped to organise the campaign):

“Vine feels so different than any other network I've participated in,

I'm not sure why, but getting a glimpse into people's lives 6.5 seconds at a time gives a unique perspective.

When I recently met a couple Vine friends in real life, it felt like they were old friends, even though I didn't know of them months before.”

The Vine community has been indeed awesome. Although, this isn't just a fundraising campaign. Organizers introduced the hashtag #WeLoveRyan as a way to show support.

If you would like to donate, check out the Ryan McHenry Won't Eat His Cancer page on Indiegogo or use the hashtag #weloveryan.

The campaign runs until Sept. 13, 2013.
