#PatsDebate is asking you to pass the message on to alert people to the losses disabled people will face with the planned changes to benefits.

    Writing

Pat’s campaign launched to get some attention on to the disproportionate affects of cuts on disabled people. It has now been passed to Labour by Liam Byrne and needs your help getting it’s message heard on Opposition Day Debate.

Pat Onions launched Pat’s Petition a year ago to alert people to the losses disabled people will face with the planned changes to benefits. The petition demanded a review of the cuts to benefits and services which are falling disproportionately on disabled people, their carers and families.  She called for a Cumulative Impact Assessment.

The campaign has prompted the Labour Party to devote an Opposition Day Debate to the issue. The debate will take place some time in January in the House of Commons with ministers and front and back benchers.

The debate will probably take place some time in January and only have a weeks notice so the important thing now is to get ready for the debate and make sure all the issues that are being campaigned get attention.

The theme of the motion for the debate will be the Pat’s Petition demand that the government – Stop and review the cuts to benefits and services which are falling disproportionately on disabled people, their carers and families and a demand for a Cumulative Impact Assessment. It’s a very wide brief so if you want to focus on a particular issue that’s fine.

We need to be more alert not only to the impact of the change from DLA to PIP, which cuts 20 per cent from the benefit, but that people risk losing passported benefits, such as bus passes and housing benefit.

We will need lots of help from you all to make sure that after all your effort this debate gets real results.

We are hoping that many of you will put up blog posts in support of Pat’s Debate and that we can collect the links together here.

We will also need your help to ask MPs from all Parties to speak in this debate and if we can direct them to your blog posts it will show them the kind of messages we want to put across.

Time is running out. Please get behind this debate and make it a game changer.
