BVSC have been commissioned to set up Healthwatch in Birmingham as an advice and information service.
Healthwatch will be the new consumer champion for health and social care and will be up and running in April 2013.
The key functions of Healthwatch will be:
Gathering views and understanding the experiences of people who use services, carers and the wider community;
Making people's views known;
Promoting and supporting the involvement of people in the commissioning and provision of local care services and how they are scrutinised;
Recommending investigation or special review of services via Healthwatch England or directly to the Care Quality Commission (CQC);
Providing advice and information about access to services and support for making informed choices;
Making the views and experiences of people known to Healthwatch England and providing a steer to help it carry out its role as national champion.
The government has allocated funding for two years, and BVSC are hoping to get the organisation established by 1st April.
BVSC are looking to hear your thoughts to ensure HealthWatch Birmingham becomes a strong and effective consumer champion and service deliver.

What safeguards do they need to put in place to ensure Healthwatch Birmingham's future independence?
What are key essential organisational elements for a successful consumer champion and service delivery organisation?
How do they ensure that Healthwatch Birmingham is accountable and makes decisions on behalf of the people using health and care service in Birmingham rather than Board member personal interests? This includes what principles it should adopt in the prioritisation of its work programme.
