Housing association to create almost 200 affordable new homes
Somerset-based housing association, Yarlington Housing Group, is aiming to deliver 189 affordable new homes over the next five years.
The group has recently signed contracts with Persimmon Homes for a large development in Taunton; half of these homes will be for social rent and the other half for shared ownership. The development, named Heathfield Gardens, also plans to build a new school, community centre, play area and an open space to be constructed alongside the new homes, reports 24dash.
Yarlington's executive director of growth and investment, Barbara Richardson, said: “This development gives local people the chance to get on the housing ladder by providing homes that they can afford. Not only do Yarlington provide homes but we invest in people and neighbourhoods ensuring that those communities in which we work thrive – we are in it for the long term and look forward to helping establish a successful community at Heathfield Gardens. Between April and September 2013, Yarlington has helped 35 families get on the housing ladder through the shared ownership scheme and housed 367 families that were in need of an affordable home to rent.”
