More to be done for mental health services in York says MP
An MP from York has met with a government minister to discuss mental health treatment in York.
Rachael Maskell MP met with junior health department minister Alistair Burt to discuss the need for a urgent new mental health h hospital to replace the ageing one already in the city, reports The Northern Echo.
She said: “It was a positive meeting, and certainly did not get the feeling he will be turning his back on the matter.”
Mental health is a priority for the newly confirmed York Central MP.
Ms Maskell said: “A recent survey from the mental health charity, Mind, shows that more than 40 per cent of people have to wait three months just to find out if they can have treatment and one in ten has to wait for a year – this is completely unsatisfactory.”
