A new project is beginning in Doncaster which will see people with mental and emotional health problems be given support by volunteers who have experienced and overcome similar difficulties.

Doncaster Council and NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group have jointly awarded a two year contract to run a borough-wide peer support training service to the intake-based People Focussed Group Doncaster, reports the Doncaster Free Press.

Doncaster PFG’s role will be to provide peer support development training programmes for groups across Doncaster.

The aim is to create a ripple effect with members meaning that they will recruit, train and support local groups, then in turn they will provide peer support to people within their comuntiy.

Doncaster PFG Director, Kelly Hicks, said: “We are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to embed peer support training across Doncaster borough.”
