The Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group has a range of mental health self-help guides, covering over 23 mental health subjects in audio form. mentalhealth.jpg

The guides have been written by clinical psychologists and are available to download in print or listen to as an audio file, reports Bedfordshire News.

Dr Judy Baxter, Clinical Director with BCCG and a GP said: “We wanted to have high quality information easily available which could help people take steps to improve their mental health. The guides are meant as an introduction to mental health self-help techniques, which for some people, may be all that is needed.”

The self-help guides are not a substitute for the support of a health professional or mental health specialist. Specialist mental health services in Bedfordshire are provided by East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT).

John Wilkins, Deputy Chief Executive for ELFT, and Managing Director for Bedfordshire Mental Health and Wellbeing Service said: “We welcome the self-help guides which can provide valuable information for people who have concerns about a wide number of issues which affect their mental or emotional wellbeing. They will support people to begin to make small changes themselves and can complement the support given by a therapist or mental health professional.”

The guides are part of a self-help campaign, called Five Ways to Wellbeing that BCCG is running with Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough councils.
