Tenants will begin moving in to a housing development designed for people with disabilities this summer.

The supported living scheme has 20 one-bedroom apartments in the former Moorgate Mill in Mill Hill, Lancashire. It is aimed to cater toward people between the ages of eighteen to 65 with physical and mental disabilities.

The development will have support workers on site and the flats will also have assistive technology so the residents will be able to maintain their independence, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.

The first person due to move in is scheduled for June and the borough is currently looking for tenants who could benefit from this type of the scheme.

Council care boss Mohammed Khan said: “We are committed to giving residents more choice and control over their care and support. We want to make sure good quality services are readily available whether they are provided by the council, the voluntary sector or the private one. We are also committed to developing and investing in services that offer early support and helps people live as they wish. This development will provide support that suits them.”

The Social and Financial return seminar was very helpful, helped me think about our approach to bidding, negotiating for funding and keeping hold of what we have! The New Technology seminar was really an eye opener- really got me thinking about potential applications for older people.
