Two-Ticks to Indicate a Disabled Applicant can Apply for the Job
Encourage disabled applicants to apply for your job by committing to the “two-ticks” symbol
The “two-ticks” symbol, used in England, Scotland and Wales, indicates that disabled applicants are welcome to apply for the vacancy advertised.
But what does “two-ticks” actually mean?
If you are looking to advertise a job, you must be given permission by Jobcentre Plus to use the Two Ticks symbol. You can get this by showing them you have made 5 commitments:
1. To interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and to consider them on their abilities
2. To discuss with disabled employees, at any time but at least once a year, what you can both do to make sure they can develop and use their abilities
3. To make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment
4. To take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work
5. To review these commitments every year and assess what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans

As per the Equality Act 2010 it is unlawful to directly or indirectly discriminate against an individual based on a disability and this includes during the recruitment and selection process. A person has a disability if they have a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities and therefore it may be that that this individual would be covered under the Equality Act and therefore something you need to be mindful of.
