Nineteen year old Ronan Finnegan has developed an app which donates money to charities each time a person hits their snooze button. Clock Illustration

WakeOrDonate is a mobile phone app which will make a donation to a charity each time the snooze button is pressed on someone’s phone alarm. The app has been developed by Ronan Finnegan, a nineteen year old on a gap year between the end of his A-levels and going to University.

Mr Finnegan said that 14% of staff show up late for work due to pressing the snooze button and this costs the UK’s economy £9bn a year, reports the Bath Chronicle.

“It’s a win, win situation. Every time someone presses their snooze button they get more time in bed and a charity will get a donation,” he said. “There isn’t anything similar on the market at the moment – nothing has the positive consequences this will. People have obviously had the idea before but have not developed it, so people seem quite excited about what I am doing.”

The app is still being developed and Mr Finnegan launched an appeal on the US crowdfunding website to help raise money to continue development.

According to Mr Finnegan a number of charities are already interested in the app.
