The Women’s Community Project is targeted at female offenders and those at risk of offending. It provides a safe, women only space with the aim of empowering and enabling women to access the support they need, and at their own pace.
Reporting to the Head of Communities Development you will be responsible for the safe and effective day to day delivery of services at the project, with responsibility for leading and supporting a team of staff and volunteers, as well as contributing to service improvement plans and the strategic direction and development of the project.
The postholder will be responsible for coordination and day – to – day management of the women’s community project Alana House and to work closely with the Head of Communit ies Devel opment, Thames Valley Probation and the Advisory Group (made up of statutory and voluntary agencies) to direct the strategic development of the project. They will oversee the delivery of services in line with the Corston Report with the purpose of reducin g the number of women entering custody and developing services which offer support to vulnerable women in the local area.
Having regard to the nature and context of the work, there is a genuine occupational requirement permitted under the Equality Act 2010 that this post is only available to women.
Ideally you should have management experience in a similar setting, a good understanding of the National Standards for the Supervision of Offenders in the Community and experience of inter-agency/partnership working, including the local courts and prison service.
Diploma in Probation Studies or Social Work Qualification
A minimum of 3 years post qualifying experience in an offending behaviour setting
Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or equivalent
Strong people management skills, able to encourage, motivate, support and develop staff
Experience of budget management and budget setting O Ability to assess and manage risks and implement lessons learned
A working knowledge of the National Standards for the Supervision of Offenders in the Community
A sound understanding of the Criminal Justice system and familiarity with the Corston Report
Experience of writing reports for a variety of audiences O Sound IT skills, including MS Excel, Word and Outlook
Experience of inter-agency/partnership working including the local courts and prison service
A good understanding of, and ability to work within, the policy framework of equality of opportunity, anti-discriminatory practice and managing diversity
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with ex-offenders within appropriate boundaries
This is initially a fixed term contract to 31st March 2014 with the possibility of extension should future funding be secured.
