    Bupa is launching a service set to identify the early sings of mental illness which will increase early intervention and help employees tackle problems quickly.

    The plan called Healthy Minds, intends to provide early intervention through employee engagement, online self-help programmes and round-the-clock support for people with mild to moderate psychological disorders like stress, anxiety and depression. Self Portrait 2

    Employees are able to self-refer themselves to the service, without the need for a GP appointment, reports Workplace Savings and Benefits.

    Bupa has said that the service was developed in acknowledgment of a lack of integration between employee assistance programme alongside client’s health insurance schemes and is a response to relatively low take-up rates of existing workplace mental health service and EAPs.

    This includes an engagement toolkit to promote the service and encourage uptake, a 24/7 triage service with a single point of contact for all Bupa Healthly Minds members, short-term therapy either face-to-face or via the telephone and a helpline providing financial, legal, dependent care advice and immediate resolution counselling, an online self-help programme and access to online mental wellbeing programmes.

    Bupa Health Funding corporate director Patrick Watt said: “Mental health problems can have a significant impact on an organisation’s performance, productivity and absence rates. Employers know that good mental health makes good business sense. But they are struggling to address the issue, which is compounded by stigma, making it hard for employees to seek help. Healthy Minds gives line managers the reassurance that their team is receiving the best possible care for recovery. It makes it easy for employees to seek help – and to feel that their mental wellbeing is clearly valued by their company.”
